How to Control Whitefly in Cotton Crop

Cotton crop with whitefly damage

Whitefly is one of the most damaging pests for cotton in Pakistan, feeding on plant sap and spreading cotton leaf curl virus. An integrated pest management (IPM) approach keeps populations below the economic threshold while protecting beneficial insects.

Scout early and often

Check the underside of leaves twice a week from square formation onwards. Treat when you count five or more adults per leaf on average.

Cultural controls

Avoid excessive nitrogen, keep field borders weed-free, and remove alternate host plants such as okra and brinjal near the crop.

Spray program

Rotate modes of action to prevent resistance. Products such as Alfie+ (Dinotefuran) and Prospel (Acetamiprid) give effective knockdown when applied at label rates with sufficient water volume. Spray in the evening for best coverage, and consult our agronomists on WhatsApp for a schedule tuned to your area.
