Rice Weed Management Complete Guide

Weeds can cut paddy yields by 30% or more when left uncontrolled in the first six weeks. A planned pre- and post-emergent program keeps the crop clean through the critical period.

Pre-emergent window (0–5 days after transplanting)

Apply a pre-emergent herbicide such as Pendirox (Pendimethalin) on well-puddled soil with a thin water film. Maintain standing water for 48–72 hours after application.

Post-emergent window (15–25 days)

Scout for escapes — especially barnyard grass and sedges — and follow up with a selective post-emergent application matched to the weed spectrum.

Non-selective spot treatment

Use Pull-Up (Glyphosate) only on bunds and non-crop areas; never inside the standing crop.

Alternate herbicide groups between seasons to avoid resistance, and keep bunds trimmed to reduce reinfestation.
